JCB Introduces Anti-Collision System for Loadall Telehandlers

JCB has taken a significant step towards enhancing safety on construction sites with the development of an innovative pedestrian recognition system for its Loadall telescopic handlers. The new system, known as JCB Intellisense, aims to prevent accidents by alerting operators and pedestrians when someone is in danger of being struck by the machinery.

Enhanced Safety Features

The JCB Intellisense system employs a combination of four cameras to provide comprehensive coverage around the telehandler:

  • Artificial Intelligence Cameras: Three cameras equipped with AI capabilities are mounted on the sides and rear of the machine. These cameras continuously monitor the surroundings for the presence of pedestrians.
  • Standard Forward-Facing Camera: The fourth camera is positioned at the front to enhance the operator’s forward view, ensuring that potential hazards in the machine’s path are clearly visible.

How It Works

The system is designed to detect pedestrians within a pre-set proximity to the machine. When a pedestrian enters this zone, JCB Intellisense activates both audible and visual warnings. Inside the cabin, the operator receives clear alerts, while external warnings ensure that pedestrians are aware of the potential danger.

Benefits of the System

The introduction of JCB Intellisense offers several key benefits:

  • Improved Safety: By providing early warnings of potential collisions, the system significantly reduces the risk of accidents involving pedestrians.
  • Enhanced Awareness: The combination of internal and external alerts ensures that both operators and pedestrians are aware of the proximity of the telehandler, promoting a safer work environment.
  • AI-Powered Detection: The use of AI in the side and rear cameras enhances the system’s ability to accurately identify pedestrians and distinguish them from other objects, reducing false alarms and improving reliability.

The development of the JCB Intellisense system underscores JCB’s commitment to advancing safety in the construction industry. By integrating cutting-edge technology into its machinery, JCB is helping to create safer workplaces and protect the lives of workers on site.
