The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) has announced the opening of its £175,000 community fund, offering local groups, schools, and charities the chance to apply for grants to enhance community-focused facilities. The fund is aimed at supporting projects located within 5 miles of TRU’s 70-mile route, which stretches between Manchester and York, as well as its key diversionary routes.
Two types of grants are available through the fund:
Eligible projects must focus on community development and are encouraged to enhance indoor or outdoor public spaces, especially in areas with high social need. The fund offers an opportunity for community organisations to create or improve spaces that foster engagement and bring people together.
TRU has expressed a preference for projects that encourage the use of public spaces, with the goal of supporting initiatives that will have a lasting impact on the communities along the route. Whether it's improving playgrounds, refurbishing community halls, or creating new green spaces, the fund is designed to help local areas thrive by providing much-needed financial support to enhance communal areas.
Eligible community groups, schools, and charities located within 5 miles of the TRU route can now apply for grants. The application process is straightforward, allowing organisations to outline how their projects will positively impact local areas. Those interested are encouraged to act quickly to secure funding and help bring their community initiatives to life.
