Rail Minister Huw Merriman, along with MPs and peers, recently acknowledged the significant social value generated by the Railway Mission. Research by the Railway Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has shown that the charity generates over £3 of value for every £1 of income received, resulting in a total contribution of £1.85 million in the past year.
The Railway Mission, a Christian charity, offers independent, confidential pastoral care to the railway community and the public. Its chaplains provide year-round support for issues like loneliness, stress, depression, trauma, bereavement, and illness, significantly improving the wellbeing and productivity of those they help.
Using the Rail Social Value Tool (RSVT), the RSSB determined that the Railway Mission generates £3.13 of social value for every £1 of income. This ratio underscores the charity's efficiency and the substantial impact of its services. The RSVT has been updated to include more metrics and a user-friendly interface, and its trial with the Railway Mission demonstrated its effectiveness.
The Railway Mission’s work provides essential support to the railway community, greatly enhancing individual wellbeing and community resilience. The charity’s impressive social value highlights the importance and effectiveness of its services.
